Education

Industry-focused acting training built around your students.

Olivia with a large group of acting students on stage

The OC Project delivers drama and acting workshops, short-term programs and creative projects for schools and performing arts studios across Melbourne.

Our teaching is practical, collaborative and designed to build confidence in the classroom, rehearsal room, on stage, on set and within the industry.

That might mean helping a beginner feel comfortable participating, challenging an experienced performer or giving students a clearer understanding of how the acting industry actually works.

Ways we can work together

One-off

Workshops and
intensives

A focused workshop designed around your students, your timetable and the skills you would like them to develop.

Workshop topics can include:

  • Acting technique and character development
  • Script analysis and scene work
  • Film and television acting
  • Audition technique, slates and self-taping
  • Improvisation and ensemble work
  • Creating original or devised work
  • Cabaret development
  • The business of being an actor

A workshop can be delivered as a standalone session, as part of a holiday program or as additional training alongside your existing classes.

Longer form

Short-term programs
and creative projects

Some ideas need more than one workshop.

Programs can run across several weeks, a term, trimester or semester, depending on your schedule and what you would like the students to develop or create.

This could include:

  • Developing original work
  • Creating a cabaret or play
  • Working towards a screen project or short film
  • Building audition skills
  • Exploring the business side of an acting career

We can also provide short-term directing and creative support for a production, showcase or student performance.

Built for the students in the room

We create a collaborative environment where students can build confidence without being forced into work they are not ready for. There is always another way into an exercise, scene or idea. That does not mean lowering the standard. It means finding the approach that gets the best work out of each student.

FAQs

Can schools use a purchase order or their usual payment process?

Tell us about your purchase order, supplier registration and Accounts requirements during the enquiry. We will agree the invoicing and payment schedule in writing before confirming the booking. Education bookings do not all use the same deposit arrangement.

What should we include in an education enquiry?

Include your school or studio, students’ ages and experience, group size, preferred dates, location and the skills or project you want to focus on. Let us know about accessibility needs, available equipment and your timetable so the session can be planned around your students.

Who are the workshops for?

The OC Project works with schools and performing arts studios looking for practical acting and industry training.

Sessions can be designed for children, teenagers, adults, experienced performers or mixed-level groups.

Do students need acting experience?

No.

Every workshop is adapted to the experience and confidence of the group.

Students do not need to consider themselves actors to participate, and experienced performers will still be given work that challenges them.

How long are the sessions, and how many students can attend?

The format is flexible. Some sessions work best with smaller groups, while others can be adapted for a full class or larger cohort.

Tell us what fits your timetable and how many students you expect, and we can recommend the best structure.

Can the session support our curriculum or current production?

Absolutely.

Workshops can be developed around a class topic, curriculum area, production, script, assessment or performance outcome.

Tell us what you are working on and where the students currently need support. That is what we’re there for.

Can you create a longer program?

Yes.

Programs can run weekly, fortnightly or across a set number of sessions, including a term, trimester or semester.

They can be designed as a complete creative project or used to complement the training you already provide.

What sort of space do we need, and do you travel?

For most sessions, a classroom, drama room, rehearsal studio or hall with enough room to work safely will be suitable. Screen or production workshops may need access to particular equipment or performance spaces.

Sessions are available across Melbourne. Travel outside Melbourne may incur an additional fee.

Do you have a Working with Children Check?

Yes.

All required checks and documentation can be provided to your school or studio before the session.

How much does it cost?

Every school and studio works with a different budget.

Pricing is based on the length of the workshop, group size, location, preparation and scope of the work.

If you already have a budget in mind, let us know. We can recommend a format that makes the best use of it.

Think we’re the right fit?
